TTCM Student Chapter of IAAP
Chartered March 2006
Debbie Ball, MBE, CAP Advisor
History of Chapter: Melinda Samuels, CAP member of the Murfreesboro Chapter, was the inital contact and primary person responsible for chartering the Tennessee Technology Center Student Chapter of IAAP. The original TTCM Student Chapter had 10 members.
Background of Chapter: The Student Chapter of IAAP at Tennessee Technology Center is made up of students enrolled in the Business Systems Technology Program at TTC. This program trains individuals to become administrative professionals in five specialized areas: general office, accounting, legal, medical, and insurance billing/coding. The program is 12 months in length and is open entry-open exit program; this means that when one student graduates, a new student will start in the vacant spot. At any given time, the program has an enrollment of approximately 20 students of which are at varying points in the study of their specialized major. The program is comprised of 3 trimesters each year (each semester is 4 months). When student officers graduate, other students are elected to fill these positions causing a frequent officer/student member roation.
The student members are active participants in the Murfreesboro chapter events and activities including the chapter newsletters and website maintainance. Being a member of IAAP provides many professional experiences and networking opportunties with other administrative professionals in the local area both of which aids these student members in locating and obtaining employment in the administrative fields after graduation from the program.
